The Arctic Region in northern Canada is a combination of lowlands and mountains!

Western Cordillera Part 2


Western Cordilleran vegetation varies enormously from one side of a mountain to another. Some sides of a mountain get a lot of water and some don't!

It is called the rain-shadow effect!


Did you know?

On the most, windward slopes of the mountain. There are trees like the Douglas Fir, western hemlock, and western red cedar.

7. The largest trees in the world exist in this region. They can be found in the United States because this region is very long and goes all the way down into Canada's neighbor!!! These trees are called "Giant Sequoias".

THE WESTERN CORDILLERA

(A REGION OF MOUNTAINS)

This is a mountain in The Western Cordillera Region!


We have learned about the Canadian Shield region, we are now going to take a look at another region. The next region is The Western Cordillera.

The Canadian Shield

The Canadian Shield

The next geographical region you will learn about is the Canadian Shield. This lesson should be finished in two computer classes.




The Canadian Shield is more than 2 billion years old. It consists of great volcanic mountains that were leveled by millions of years of erosion. It is the geographic foundation of Canada covering more than half of its surface area.



1. Find a map of this region. Which provinces are in this region? (IF you don't know what your map is telling you, DO NOT WRITE I DONT KNOW! ASK me or a friend!)

















2. Translate erosion. What is erosion? Explain in your own words.The climate of this region varies greatly. There are colder winters in the north.
